3 nutritious cacao recipes for the chocolate-obsessed

Savoury and mouth-watering chocolate need not be unhealthy treats. Cacao powder is actually filled with free radical-absorbing anti-oxidants and other important micronutrients such as magnesium. Here are some yummy recipes for all you chocolate fanatics out there.


Chocolate Coconut Doughnuts


  • 1 cup coconut meat

  • ¼ cup coconut flour

  • 2 tbsp banana flour

  • 1 tbsp raw cacao

  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder

  • 1 tbsp chaga mushroom powder

  • 1 tbsp melted coconut oil

  • 2 tbsp raw honey

  • 2 oz. melted chocolate

  • 1 tbsp sunflower butter

  • 1 tbsp tahini

  • ¼ cup coconut cream



  1. Stir cacao, chaga, coconut, coconut flour, banana flour, and cinnamon in a bowl to combine.

  2. In another bowl, add the melted chocolate to the coconut oil, honey, coconut cream, sunflower butter, and tahini.

  3. Combine the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Using your hands to knead, form a sticky dough.

  4. After reaching the right dough consistency, fill up the doughnut pan.

  5. Set in the fridge to harden for about three to four hours.

  6. Serve.



Gluten-Free and Vegan Sweet Potato Brownies

To make the brownies:

  • 16 oz. roasted sweet potatoes, cooled and smashed

  • 1 cup cold-pressed coconut oil, solid state

  • 6 pitted dates

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ cup raw honey

  • ½ cup cacao powder

  • 3 cups almond meal

To make the frosting:

  • 2 ripe avocados (seeds removed)

  • ¼ cup almond milk

  • ¼ cup cold-pressed coconut oil (solid)

  • ½ cup raw cacao powder

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt



1.       Preheat oven to 160°C.

2.       While waiting, combine honey, sweet potato, coconut oil, vanilla, cacao powder, and dates into a food processor for three minutes to achieve a creamy consistency.

3.       Add almond meal into the food processor and process it for an additional minute.

4.       Spoon into a lined baking tray. Remember to smoothen the top.

5.       Bake for 45 minutes in the oven and set it aside to cool afterwards.

6.       While waiting, combine all frosting ingredients into a high-speed blender for two minutes until smooth.

7.       Spread your desired amount of frosting over the top of the brownie.

8.       Serve.



Vegan Chocolate ice cream


  • 6 frozen bananas (without skin)

  • 2/3 cup cacao powder

  • 14-16 oz. of pitted dates

  • 1/2 cup almond milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract



Blend all ingredients in a blender until thick and creamy. Serve immediately.
