It may be difficult to keep your head up when the going gets tough sometimes, but one of the best ways to get through is with self-affirmation. A little love goes a long way, so surround yourself with these tiny positive reminders for a great emotional boost!


1. Set alarms for Cheer O’clock

You don’t need to wait for Happy Hour at a bar to feel good. Set notifications that will go off at completely random times like 11.32am or 4.07pm when you know you’re going to be a bit worn down; seeing a cheery little message that comes with it makes for nice little pick-me-up! Set these notes up days in advance to surprise yourself. People always say that we are our own worst critics, but who says you can’t be your own biggest fan?


2. Post some praise

Post-it notes make quick and effective ego-boosters. They’re commonly used for writing reminders like chores or work tasks, which makes them the perfect medium to remind yourself to stay happy! Scribble down quick, meaningful messages to yourself and leave them everywhere. Congratulate yourself on your strengths and achievements, offer forgiveness for your weaknesses and mistakes, and remind yourself to stay strong.


3. Positive passwords

Incorporate self-affirmation into the littlest details in your life by adding them to a daily essential: your passwords! The act of reading your password in your head as you type it in will reinforce the positive messages. If “iamawes0me” or “lif3isgr8” feels a little too insincere, try personalising a more empowering password. You can turn it into a goal, such as a country you intend to travel to to or an item you’re saving up for.


4. Treat every small victory seriously

Simple, everyday victories that don’t mean anything to others (like conducting a successful presentation) are definitely worth celebrating, because their value is known only to you. Award yourself the praise you deserve – you did a great job and you should be proud of that! Acts of self-affirmation not only make you feel better about yourself, it also has a ripple effect on the people around you and influences them to give themselves some praise too.
