Easy-make breakfasts that are sans gluten and dairy

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, busy adults like you and I often dismiss that and opt for a strong cup of coffee to kickstart the day instead. That being said, healthy breakfasts can actually be easy and quick to make. Here are some recipes that are both dairy-free and gluten-free to get you started.

 

Hummus & Veggie Waffles

Ingredients

  • 2 gluten-free waffles
  • 4 tbsp hummus
  • 1 radish (thin slices)
  • ½ small cucumber (thin slices)
  • Sesame seeds

 

Instructions

Toss the waffles in the toaster. After they are done, spread each waffle with 2 tablespoons of hummus. Add the vegetable slices on top, and sprinkle some sesame seeds to complete it. Serve.

 

Breakfast Parfait

Ingredients

  • 1 to 2 heaped tbsp chia seeds
  • ¼ cup rolled oats
  • ¾ cup dairy-free yogurt (coconut)
  • 2 tbsp almond milk
  • Fresh fruit
  • Granola

 

Instructions

Combine chia seeds, rolled oats, yogurt, and a little almond milk together. You may need to top up on the almond milk later on as the chia seeds will absorb a lot of liquid before fattening up. Leave the mixture overnight in the fridge. Before serving, add an assortment of your favourite fruits and granola.

 

Waffles with Tahini Cacao

Ingredients

  • 2 gluten-free waffles
  • ¼ cup tahini
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder
  • Sea salt (a pinch)
  • Honey
  • Hemp seeds
  • Fresh sliced fruit

 

Instructions

Toast the waffles in a toaster. While the waffles are being toasted, prepare the spread. In a separate bowl, combine the tahini, cacao powder and sea salt, and mix well. Add honey to taste or you can drizzle it on top after you’ve spread it on the waffles. Add the freshly sliced fruits along with hemp seeds and serve.

 

Having a healthy meal first thing in the morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. The delicious and healthy recipes above take only five minutes to make and can even be prepped the night before. At least now you’ll have something tasty to go along with that cup of joe!
