Festive dining done right (and healthily)!

As the importance of health and wellness continues to spread in today's society, it's no surprise that we're witnessing a concordant rise in the demand for healthier dining options. Eateries like Hans im Glück and Whole Earth cater to discerning diners who practice conscious eating, featuring menus that distinguish between gluten-free, plant-based and low-carb options. As Christmas rolls around, it brings comfort knowing that there are places where one can dine out without having to worry about nutrition!

 

Festive dining is all about enjoying quality food whilst being in the company of family and friends. Indulgences usually run high during such times, and it's certainly well-deserved. After all, there's nothing wrong with celebrating the end of another productive year! However, satisfying your sweet tooth doesn't necessarily have to come at the expense of ingesting abominable amounts of sugar and the subsequent spike in glucose levels.

 

Duxton41 is a dessert cafe that has garnered a reputation for crafting delectable works of art that taste just as good as look (maybe even better), all without using a single granule of sugar! Instead, head chef and co-founder Wyatt Tan uses monk fruit sweetener, a zero-calorie sweetener that comes with a glycaemic index (GI) of zero. The sweetness comes from naturally-occurring compounds known as mogrosides, which has no impact on the body's blood sugar levels due to it being processed differently than sucrose or fructose.

One can look forward to finding some familiar comforts at Duxton41 like the Ultimate Fudge Cake as well as eye-catching dessert concepts like the  Soufflé Cheesecake. Diners on a plant-based diet may likewise dig in to the Vegan Brownie, which is made sans eggs and dairy. The Lemon Curd Tart is another vegan-friendly option worth considering that uses aquafaba (aka. “chickpea water”) as the main ingredient in its meringue topping and a mixture of flaxseed with almond flour for the tart base. For the kiddies (or the young at heart), there's also the sugar-free soft serve up for grabs!

 

The allure of sugar-free, low-carb dessert fare is an attractive one for sure, and when paired with the café's heavily stylised interior makes for an excellent destination for folks looking to end the night on a high note (without going overboard of course). Aside from desserts, Duxton41 also offers a selection of wine that pairs wonderfully with their sweets. Diners get to select from a variety of champagnes, rosés, red and white wine; there's tipple for every occasion!

 

It's hard to imagine a perfect dinner night that doesn't end with a delectable treat served with a tiny fork. Eating healthy is a package deal, so it's nice when you're able to count both the main course and dessert as a nourishing meal. Looks like we may get to have our cake and eat it after all!
