No excuses, men should meditate too

In the highly competitive and fast-paced world that we live in, it’s often difficult to find time to engage in the activities that we enjoy. So, when someone brings up the idea of meditation, it is easy to think of this exercise as a waste of time or an activity betters suited to ascetic monks sitting cross-legged in a scared place of worship. In reality, meditation is an exercise meant for everyone. In fact, there are several benefits that can be reaped from this simple and tranquil activity, especially for men!

Reducing stress, introducing peace and clarity

“Stress” is a word that is thrown around frequently, especially if you’re residing in a bustling, urbanised city. Finances, career advancements, relationships and work-life balance are just some things that many men fret over. While there is no miracle potion that can make all of these problems disappear into thin air, meditation exercises certainly come close by helping to reduce stress and anxiety. Letting go of your thoughts and focusing on a single point can bring you a sense of serenity and peace. Repeating this exercise daily can also bring you clarity, resulting in improved decision-making skills and lucidity to your thoughts.

Carpe diem

Aside from mental and emotional stability, meditation can also help you live your life more spontaneously and appreciate the small things by allowing you to be more invested in the moment. When we get caught up in the flurry of life, it is difficult for us to be conscious and in the present without dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Meditation allows you to hone in on all your senses and enables you to seize the day.

Improving sexual experiences

One thing that may be less known about the health benefits of meditation is that this seemingly benign exercise can actually improve sexual performance. When we encounter stress, cortisol, also known as the stress hormone, is released. This frequently causes erectile dysfunction, and decreases sex drive in men. However, meditation can solve this by helping you relax and increasing serotonin production, which improves mood and behaviour, thereby enhancing your overall sexual experience.

While it may be difficult to find time or a quiet space to meditate in, the advantages that this exercise brings make it well worth the effort. With enough determination, you will be able to fit meditation into your life and channel your inner peace while strengthening your mind. Turn your life into your version of Eat Pray Love!
