Top picks in Singapore - Breakfast places

Top picks in Singapore - Breakfast places

by Kesavan Loganathan 28 Feb 2020

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. This is a fact and it’s due to how it is required to give the body enough energy to begin the day ahead. I agree with the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, it is more towards the reason that breakfast meals are the most delicious amongst the 3 meals of the day. Read on to find out some of my top picks of breakfast restaurants around Singapore.

Jones the Grocer

9 Dempsey Road, #01-12

Interesting name for a restaurant, isn’t it? I thought so to as I visited the Dempsey Road branch not too long ago. I’ve got to say Jones has it all. Their menu comprises of every bit of breakfast goodness you can find. How do you like your eggs? You name it, they have it. Pasta in the morning perhaps, why not? I even loved the presentation of their food. It was clean, minimalistic and pleasing to the eye. I was absolutely famished when I was there so I went for the Jone’s big breakfast which included a juicy sausage, grilled tomatoes, bacon, creamy scrambled eggs, baby spinach, and crispy hash browns atop a nicely toasted slice of sour dough bread. Every ingredient in this meal was perfectly cooked and the tastes complimented each other well. I also tried their Eggs Benedict which they paired with a freshly baked English muffin and some ham. Topping it off, they had a rich and creamy layer of hollandaise sauce which was like the cherry on top of the cake. The sauce had a slight lemony zest to it which gave it a extra points because it combined well with the eggs. A must visit!

66A Serangoon Garden Way

I’ll be honest here. I spent at least 5 full minutes trying to uncover the mystery behind this restaurant’s name. Arbite is located along 66A Serangoon Garden Way and its name apparently means “work” said in a certain pun-ey way in Europe. Arbite serves quality breakfast meals amongst others and it was a treat for my tongue as I journeyed there to partake in their wonderful food. I know we’re speaking about breakfast but as a side note I’d like to add that Arbite have a huge array of pasta dishes. I tried 2 of the pasta dishes (Salted Egg Crab Pasta & Blue Cheese Pasta) and I have to say that they were an absolute revelation in terms of quality. Who says we can’t have pasta for breakfast, am I right? If you prefer breakfast to be strictly ‘all-breakfast’ then go for the Arbite Breakfast dish which includes scrambled eggs, roasted sausage, sautéed mushrooms, tomato & basil salad with toast accompanied with a jar of butter and kaya. The service provided was excellent with warm and friendly staff and the waiting time wasn’t very long either. So, all in all, I had a pleasant time at Arbite. Grab a few friends or family and give this one a go!

Cheng’s Gourmet Food Bar

28 Clementi Road

Cheng’s Gourmet Food Bar has gotten some rave reviews on multiple food review sites and it really put a question mark in my head asking if their food could really be that good. I have got to say that the answer is a resounding yes after I decided to visit to taste (and see) for myself. The café itself is very aesthetically pleasing with its polished wooden tables and clean white bricked walls. Cold drinks were served in a cool jar looking cup. I went there in the morning to try their much talked about breakfast dishes and I didn’t regret it one bit. I ordered some coffee and their Gula Melaka pancakes. The pancakes tasted so different from the usual authentic buttermilk ones, in a good way. As its name suggests, it’s made from Gula Melaka which is a sweeter form of sugar commonly known in the English tongue as palm sugar. Melaka comes from the fact that it originated in a state in Malaysia known as Melaka. I also ordered the vegan burger set which had a butternut squash patty, onions, pickles, tomatoes amongst other vegetables. Do give this restaurant a go because there is an incredible variety of food to be tried and you’re bound to find something that you really enjoy.
