1. Grab the bar, start in a dead hang where your lats are stretched and arms are straight with your hands shoulder-width apart.
2. Initiate the movement by pulling your shoulders down and back, resisting the need to bend your elbows right away.
3. When shoulders are "prepped", pull your elbows to your sides, and do your pull/chin up.
